International Women’s Day March
Rio de Janeiro
08/03/2000
Women from the Abayomi Group parade singing and playing musical instruments. The Abayomi Cooperative was created in Rio de Janeiro in December 1988, when a group of women of different generations and different social and cultural movements joined Lena Martins (a craftswoman, popular educator and militant in the movement of Black women) from Maranhão State to manufacture Abayomi dolls — handmade cloth dolls made from recycled rags, tied with knots, without glue or stitching.
